“Maddalena’s overtone-rich voice accentuates the gravity of the words she sings. […] The deafening noise of London in this Twenty-first century buries the voices that scream for a saviour, but this track stands as an irrepressible and piercing battlecry against that.” Twisted Soul premiere on Unsustainable Noise, CARE, FUWAH.

“Really interesting stuff from Maddalena coming out of London.” DJ Trouble - WFMU
“Rarely does a collaboration between two singular artists end in a result so egoless as ‘Dolomite’ […] An extraordinary sonic journey from these two uncommon talents, ‘Dolomite’ is a generously strange adventure, its visceral sensations and poetic atmospheres a deeply rewarding experience. 9/10” Truth and Lies - Read full review here.
“The latest in Maddalena Ghezzi’s Minerals series, Dolomite springs from the cracks in rocky terrain like a pointillistic aural foam. In collaboration with bassist, composer, and vocalist Ruth Goller, a backward-facing river cuts through a crumbling landscape in search of an epicenter. Voices swirl, disembodied and flickering like invitations above the sky. Ghezzi and Goller’s focus intertwines, pushing lightwaves through rising tides and crumbling, aqueous towers. In moments, guarded spaces emerge through enchanting breathwork and repeating melodic patterns. A lithe cadence switches on while whispers pull us closer and press our thoughts inward, finding safety within as worlds catch fire and become dust. There are quixotic moments speckled throughout Dolomite, but the lingering impacts hang in their own gravity, looking for a way to exist in harmony with places we’ve left in decline.” Foxy Digitalis
“The voices of Ghezzi and Goller have different overtones depending on the language that the song is in, and they follow each other like water particles follow each other in this emotional journey.” Betty Accorsi - Jazz In Europe - Read full review here.
“Melodie avvolgenti.”
“La sinergia tra le due musiciste si trasforma in un tappeto sonoro.”
"Scritto in inglese, italiano, ladino e tedesco, Dolomite nasce dalla connessione di suoni e linguaggi diversi; un lavoro che ancora una volta mette in mostra la duttilità della Ghezzi sempre incline alla sperimentazione..." Mario Ariano - Radioaktiv - Read full review here.
“A beautiful EP that allows the listener to immerse in natural wonder and the concept of Nature as an ever-changing, yet constant presence.” Sammy Stein on The Free Jazz Collective - Read full review here.

Gail Tasker’s review of Emerald at Vortex Jazz Club on JazzWise. Read full review here.
“ […] their ability to blend loops and layers into an inextricable mass was testament to the natural symbiosis of the group, as the trio became one. […] If that sounds too good to be true, then the live version takes it one step further, stretching out each track into a continuous string of semi-improvised, interconnected ideas with the help of Anything Pointless on modular synth and electronics. […] Ghezzi’s ethereal vocals, also manipulated by Anything Pointless, mix together spoken lyrics and wordless singing, giving the sensation of something ancient but also otherworldly and distant. […] Sharing her thoughts after the gig, Argirò remarks on the similarities between modular synthesis and jazz improvisation. Both share a certain “edginess”: participants are in control as they play, but are also required to listen and respond to each other in real time, and to test each other’s boundaries.

“[…] ethereal and elegant composition, which immediately takes you into a space other than your own […]Both Ghezzi and Argiró have channelled their artistry into a very special collection of tracks, a meaningful addition to the Minerals series.
“Fearless improviser & wonderful human. Best place to familiarise yourself with the wonder that is @maddieghezzi is probably her ongoing Minerals series of sporadic duo recordings. On those you don’t just hear the clarity, focus and control Maddalena has of her voice, but you’ll quickly recognise her gift for truly selfless collaboration.” George Nelson, Moment’s Notice curator
“I was fascinated about by the many eclectic interests that inspire her and that converge in her art”. Read here the conversation with singer-composer Germana Stella La Sorsa on Women In Jazz Magazine, pages 146-154 and on Jazz In Europe.
“Maddie’s music is enigmatic, atmospheric and her compositions and voice will carry you to new places that feel both metaphysical and tangible at the same time.“ Emmerline Smy, podcast host at Smygoodness.

Using the voice creatively, Maddalena Ghezzi connects avant-garde jazz improvisation with experimental electronics on her new EP, Emeralds. This is spirited and challenging, a lovely 3-track project packed with improv of the highest calibre. With site fave Maria Chiara Argirò along for the ride, this was always going to be an intriguing project, and it more than lived up to our expectations. Listening to this continuously from 2022 and beyond.

“There is indeed a sense of purpose and freedom to the music; the listener is caught by the soaring vocals and warping, gently rhythmic synths, a little like the steady beat of nature, swaying in tune to music and creation.”

“The lead track, ‘on the outside’, fuses driving synth sounds while incorporating a peculiar yet hypnotic vocal, making for a fascinating listen. The track highlights both artists’ irresistible and impressive experimentation.”
